4 Best Money Tips for College Students

First here are some credit card tips for college students

1 – Manage Credit Score
If you have a large balance that is maintained by only making the minimum payment, you’ll be considered a “credit risk” and your credit score will go down. This affects buying a car (higher financing rates) and even insuring your car (higher financial risk = higher payments). Keep this in mind if you are racking up big bills without the cash to quickly pay them back.

2 – Don’t Carry a Balance
When possible, avoid carrying a balance. As stated above, it’ll keep your credit score lower than average and will also increase the amount of money you ultimately have to pay.

3 – Watch Your Interest Rate
The higher this is, the more your balance will increase each month. If you can begin with a 0% rate or transfer to a credit card that will offer a similar low rate, it is certainly recommended. Just be careful of what that low rate becomes, once the initial offer vanishes.

4 – Consider Rewards Cards
For those who do pay their bills, it’s worth looking into cards that provide cash back, miles, hotel points, or a similar bonus for using your credit card on a regular basis. Just be wary of annual fees, as they can offset any bonuses you may earn.

5 – Prepaid Cards Aren’t Ideal
If you think you’ll have a lot of difficulty paying off your balance, a prepaid card provides you with plastic, similar to a gift card you may get at a retail store. However, it doesn’t improve your credit, it won’t do much for you in emergencies, and there are very rarely options for rewards.

6 – Always Carry Some Cash
Studies have shown that consumers spend less when they are using cash instead of plastic. So, you may wish to leave your Visa at home when you hit the mall.

7 – Debit Cards Aren’t Always Best
The nice part about debit cards is that there is no balance, and your money is pulled directly from your bank account. The negatives are that it doesn’t allow you to improve your credit and if it gets stolen, thieves have direct access to your money – even though card companies say there is no liability.

8 – Use the telephone
Getting hit hard by your APR? Give your card company a ring and ask them if they can lower your rate. Have to make a late payment? Clear it with your card so you won’t incur late fees. Card companies want to keep you as customers and are more than willing to do favors for you, periodically. In turn, they hope that you slowly (but surely) keep your balances with them.

Motivating students or encourage them for participation in class and other activities is not always an easy job. Only a good teacher can do it.

Here are Nine Methods that may work for you to keep motivating your students in classroom.

1 – Remain Positive
Yelling and threatening students is not an effective way to motivate. Remaining positive and focusing on achievement will motivate students and help to create mutual respect for each individual and for learning.

2 – Provide Opportunities for Success
Struggling students need to succeed in some small ways in order to be motivated to achieve in greater ways. Without lowing your expectations, find ways to allow these struggling students to succeed.

3 – Be Excited
The more excited you are about something, the more excited your students will be. If you find the topic you are teaching boring, so will your students, so find creative ways to teach the most boring lessons.

4 – Allow Students to Earn Rewards
Individual and whole class rewards can be a great motivation, especially when looking for appropriate behavior.

5 – Teach Teamwork
Have activities that your students can work on together. Group your students for simple projects such as finding a current event to share every week. Have your students work in teams on projects that enable learning through exploration.

6 – Public Praise
Make a habit of publicly praising students for achievement. You can even go as far as to create a certificate of achievement, have the student stand to receive the certificate and send it home for the child’s parents to display on the refrigerator.

7 – Appropriate Praise
Praise students appropriately. If you are struggling to motivate a child, be careful to not praise him for a non-achievement. Praise him for a job well done. Rewards and praise should not be handed out left and right, instead, they should be selective and appropriate in order to motivate your students.

8 – Teach Problem Solving Skills
Teaching your students to solve problems will allow them to be naturally interested in what they are learning. Providing opportunities for students to make mistakes and figure out how to accomplish a goal will make school more interesting, and thus motivate them to try.

9 – Provide Opportunities for Varied Experiences
Different children will succeed in different areas in their lives. Include opportunities for learning each of the multiple intelligences theorized by Dr. Gardner in 1983. This allows students to succeed in a variety of ways. The more success a student sees in the classroom, the more motivated he will be to continue to succeed.

Motivating students takes a little effort, but the reward is well worth the work.

Cheap Student Train Fare
The easiest way to get cheap train fare of students in the UK is booked in advance. Buying tickets a week or two in advance can literally quarter your train ticket and you can even save money when buying your ticket the day before on the Internet and collecting in the train station the next day. This is great if you are a student who is far from his hometown, as the cross country train tickets can be extremely costly and create a big dent in your travel budget!

If you travel a short distance (25 miles or less) and there is a possibility that you are returning the same day, getting a return. One can cost $ 5 to a destination, but it costs £ 5.20 for a comeback! Not sure why, but saves you money! So if there is a slight possibility that he returned the same day, spend the extra pennies just in case!

Going home for holidays or weekends? Do not let a single round. When traveling to and from major train stations in the UK, you can open a return. An open back allows you to revert back to their university town within 30 days the ticket is purchased, at any time, for a couple of extra pounds. It saves a single payment and must be one!

Student Discount Airline Tickets
Students don’t tend to fly from UK city to city, so this section is really just about flying abroad.

Get last hour student flights, not last minute.
Flights ast minutes used to be all the rage, but flying now companies are getting smarter and pushing prices of flights until the last couple of days a flight is available, making consumers think they are the cheapest have been for sale. You are much better looking at flights for students of two or three weeks before the planned flight date, as it is when they tend to be cheaper. Great if you want a weekend in Prague or Ibiza!

Double check taxes and supplements.
A common mistake made is thinking that you’re getting that amazing offer airline tickets flight student with a £ 1 and then realize you book we charged an extra £ 70 for taxes and surcharges fuel! Triple check the prices on the Internet … £ 3 a flight that sounds too good to be true, it will be too good to be true!

Fly with cheap airlines.
Students do not mind flying with as much as adults … Or should not anyway! Go to company flight discount websites such as Jet2 and Ryanair and Bmibaby and get the student discount airline tickets!

Student Bus Travel
How cheap bus ride really depends on where you live in the UK.

Get a free bus.
If you live in big cities like Manchester and Leeds, will usually have free city bus that runs the circle of the city throughout the day usually comes every 10-15 minutes. Look out for them if you ever visit a great city! Standard buses also tend to be very cheap if you know what to get.

If you live in a city or town, it is likely that buses are ridiculously expensive. Its probably best to literally walk or getting a lift to be perfectly honest!

Here are the 5 Basic tips for students who want to manage their loans without getting in any trouble end of day.

1 – Do not allow your rates of interest to increase. Interest rates of student loans are usually variable and can change annually. Therefore, you should permanently get a lockdown on your rates of interest by getting into consolidation immediately.

2 – Make use of automatic payments. The majority of lenders out there provide reduced rates of interest if your payments in student loans are automatically taken out from your savings or checking account. In the long run, you could save a lot of money this way. Additionally, you will not have to remind yourself to write checks every month and loan payments are sure to be made in a timely basis.

3 – Try very hard not to get behind when it comes to payments. If making your payments for student loans tends to become too troublesome, get into contact with your loan servicer as soon as possible to check if you are eligible for forbearance or deferment. As with other loans, payments on student loans that are made late could affect your overall credit rating.

4 – Pick the ideal option of payment for you. There are several options of payment available to borrowers of student loans that look into consolidation. Payment plans that match your existing financial situation could easily aid in maintaining the loans. You can always switch plans again whenever needed.

5 – Try to get money back from the student loans. Lenders and services will sometimes provide you with incentives in order for you to pay them off on time within a certain time limit. They will then give you money back if you make around ten payments in a row on time.

1 – Basic Computer Safety Maintenance
Before you surf the Web, you should perform three key maintenance steps to help improve the computer’s security. Visit Protect your computer in 4 steps and follow the steps online to:
– Use an Internet firewall.
– Update your computer.
– Use up-to-date antivirus software.
– Use up-to-date antispyware software.

2 – Don’t open files from strangers
E-mail and instant messaging (IM) can spread viruses and worms if you aren’t careful. Most e-mail viruses are spread by people who are tricked into opening an infected file. You should never open a file attached to an e-mail or an instant message unless you recognize the sender and you are expecting the file.

3 – Help fight spam and online scams
You can use technology to help keep junk e-mail from deluging your screen. To see how, read Help keep spam out of your inbox. Phishing is another threat to your privacy that could lead to the theft of your credit card numbers, passwords, account information, or other personal data. To learn more, read Recognize phishing scams and fraudulent e-mails.

4 – Learn how to protect yourself from spyware
If your Web browser has been taken over by pop-up ads, or there are toolbars on your computer that you didn’t download intentionally, your computer might be running spyware. Spyware is software that collects personal information from you without first letting you know what it’s doing, and without asking for your permission.

You might get spyware if you download music or file-sharing programs, free games from sites you don’t trust, or other software programs from a suspicious Web site. If your computer is running Windows Vista you have spyware protection built-in.

5 – Take precautions when you go wireless
Many high school and college campuses have wireless networks, so you can surf the Web in the library, cafeteria, or a classroom. These networks are convenient, but they do come with a security risk. If you set up your own wireless network at home or in your dorm room, read Windows Vista Features Explained: Wireless Networking or Improve the secuirty of your wireless home network with Windows XP and pay special attention to the section on wireless network security. Also read Use public wireless networks more safely to get more tips on WiFi security.

6 – Password protect your computer—and lock it
Passwords are the first line of defense in protecting your computer from criminals, pranksters, or a careless roommate. If you don’t use a password to log on to your computer, anyone can access your computer and unlock it.

Use our tips for building stronger passwords now, and be sure to lock your computer when you’re not using it. To “lock” your Windows computer, hold down “Windows logo key + L.” Follow the instructions on the screen to unlock your computer when you’re ready to use it again.

7 – Back up your work
The image of students losing their term papers because they forgot to back up their work has almost become a cliché. Still, many of us don’t have the time to back up. If you use Windows Vista read Windows Vista Features Explained: Complete PC Backup. If you use Windows XP, you can let the Backup Utility do the work for you. To find out how, read Windows XP Backup Made Easy.
Here are 10 tips to help you create a productive and memorable college experience… and most of all, to deeply enjoy this time in your life.

1. “Why am I going to college?”
Many college students really don’t have a clear reason for Why they are in Colleg?. They inherit goals from family and peers which aren’t truly their own.

2. Visualize your ideal experience at college
Once you know why you’re going to college, imagine your ideal outcome. Whether you have already started college or not, stop and simply write down some attributes of your ideal experience. Describe it in as much detail as you can.

3. Utilize your spare time making each semester more productive
Students are taught that 12-15 semester units (3-5 classes) is a “full” schedule. But a schedule that light is hardly full. A person with a full-time job will put in a 40+ hours/week , and compare to that students enjoy every possible vacation day plus spring break, winter break, and summer vacation. If you want to spend four or more years in college, add more degrees or get a job on the side. Don’t feel you have to go at a snail’s pace just because everyone else does.

4. Set clear goals for each class
Decide what you want out of each specific class. Is this a subject you’re eager to learn? Do you want to target this teacher for a letter of recommendation? Is this a required class you must take but which doesn’t otherwise interest you?

5. Invest energy where it required
You don’t need to put an equal amount of effort into every class. Inject extra effort when it’s important to you, but feel free to back off a little from classes that are a low priority based on your specific goals. For me this was an important way to conserve energy. I couldn’t play full out in every class, or I’d burn out, so I invested my energy where it mattered most.

6. Start early each day
I found that getting an early start each day helped me get a lot more done, not just in the morning but throughout the day. I began each day with a 25-minute run followed by a shower and breakfast. This simple morning routine got me out the door feeling alert and energized.

7. Reclaim wasted time during your classes
Not every class is going to require your utmost concentration. Sometimes teachers babble. Sometimes they reiterate what you already know. What percentage of class time requires your complete, focused attention? For some classes it’s 90%. For others it’s 20%. If you aren’t actively learning during class, you’re wasting time. If a class is really challenging, sit in the front and soak up every word. But if a class isn’t challenging you, then sit in the back, do homework for other classes, and pop your head up every once in a while to see if there’s anything worth jotting down. Always have a book open, so when your hippie professor goes off on yet another nostalgia trip about the 60s, you’ll have something productive to do.

8. Learn material the very first time it’s presented
One of the biggest time wasters in school is having to relearn something you didn’t learn properly the first time. When students say they’re studying, most of the time they’re making up for a previous failure to learn the material.

9. Master advanced memory techniques
One of the keys to learning material the first time it’s taught is to train yourself in advanced memory techniques.

10. Have some serious fun!
Challenge yourself academically, but give yourself plenty of time for fun as well. Don’t squander your leisure time hanging around doing nothing. Go out and do something active that will blow off steam and increase your energy.
Follow these test tips, and you’ll know you did your best – congratulations!
Here are the top ten tips to success!

1 – Have a Positive Attitude
Approach the big test as you’d approach a giant jigsaw puzzle. It might be tough, but you can do it! A positive attitude goes a long way toward success.

2 – Make a Plan
The week before the test, ask your teacher what the test is going to cover. Is it from the textbook only? Class notes? Can you use your calculator? If you’ve been absent, talk to friends about material you may have missed. Make a list of the most important topics to be covered and use that as a guide when you study. Circle items that you know will require extra time. Be sure to plan extra time to study the most challenging topics.

3 – The Night Before
Cramming doesn’t work. If you’ve followed a study plan, the night before the test you should do a quick review and get to bed early. Remember, your brain and body need sleep to function well, so don’t stay up late!

4 – The Morning of the Test
Did you know that you think better when you have a full stomach? So don’t skip breakfast the morning of the test. Get to school early and do a ten-minute power study right before the test, so your brain is turned on and tuned up.

5 – Test Time
Before the test begins, make sure you have everything you’ll need – scratch paper, extra pencils, your calculator (if you’re allowed to use it). Understand how the test is scored: Do you lose points for incorrect answers? Or is it better to make guesses when you’re not sure of the answer? Read the instructions! You want to make sure you are marking answers correctly.

6 – Manage Your Time
Scan through the test quickly before starting. Answering the easy questions first can be a time saver and a confidence builder. Plus, it saves more time in the end for you to focus on the hard stuff.

7 – I’m Stuck!
Those tricky problems can knock you off balance. Don’t get worried or frustrated. Reread the question to make sure you understand it, and then try to solve it the best way you know how. If you’re still stuck, circle it and move on. You can come back to it later. What if you have no idea about the answer? Review your options and make the best guess you can, but only if you don’t lose points for wrong answers.

8 – Multiple-Choice Questions
The process of elimination can help you choose the correct answer in a multiple-choice question. Start by crossing off the answers that couldn’t be right. Then spend your time focusing on the possible correct choices before selecting your answer.

9 – Neatness Counts
If your 4s look like 9s, it could be a problem. Be sure that your writing is legible and that you erase your mistakes. For machine-scored tests, fill in the spaces carefully.

10 – I’m Done!
Not so fast – when you complete the last item on the test, remember that you’re not done yet. First, check the clock and go back to review your answers, making sure that you didn’t make any careless mistakes (such as putting the right answer in the wrong place or skipping a question). Spend the last remaining minutes going over the hardest problems before you turn in your test.
